As such I can now say with certainty that allowing to specify root by targetname is not something which we are going to support. For cases where the device number may change one can already specify root by UUID or LABEL, and that is the supported solution to handle these situations, as this works independend of the underlying storage technique. We are not going to add various hacks to allow other ways of specifying the root device which are storage technique dependend. In F10, after the last openoffice update to version 3.0.1-15.2, my ooocalc spreadsheets are taking more horizontal space than before. It seems the horizontal spacing has changed. I can be mistaken, but I think only the numbers are more spaced, I can't see any difference in the space between letters. But I'm sure something has changed, because I have some spreadsheets which were exactly as wide as my screen and now they don't fit anymore. The font used is Arial. I am assuming that the new use of the UUID label is screwing up attempt to add the grub entry when the new kernel is installed. I would also note that this machine was originally installed with Windows RAID drivers by the vendor so that I have to use nodmraid to keep dmraid from getting confused by the tattooing on the drive. Perhaps this is related and the wrong labels are being read? Disabling LDAP authentication solves the problem. _____________________________________________________________________ The problems described in the bug above exist in RHEL5 since 5.0. If the server rebooting is ldap-serving itself, dbus hangs during reboots. In a debugging session, ensuring that ldap starts before messagebus solved the issue. So it either needs a reordering of the boot sequence of the services (e.g. move ldap to the front of any consuming service), or some nss_ldap magic. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Jones 2009-02-20 12:25:41 EDT --- Created an attachment (id=332736) --> (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=332736) Proposed patch to e2fsprogs.spec Here is a copy of an email I sent to Eric on this subject. - - - - I would like to propose that e2fsprogs generate four subpackages for the independent libraries that it contains. These four libraries are used by other packages that don't need the whole of e2fsprogs-devel (eg. krb5_workstation uses libss, qpid uses libuuid, and many programs use libcom_err). Our specific use case is to help with ongoing work porting libraries to MinGW (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MinGW) where we would prefer to package mingw32-libuuid for mingw32-qpidc without needing to port the whole of e2fsprogs. I looked at Debian's package, and would like to propose a split along the same lines: http://packages.debian.org/source/lenny/e2fsprogs Despite the apparent complexity, there are only really four subpackages. For the Fedora package we would create: libblkid libblkid-devel libcom_err libcom_err-devel [note 1] libss libss-devel libuuid libuuid-devel There are no conflicting package names in Fedora at the moment, except for the similarly named libss7 (a library implementing Signalling System 7 telephone switching protocol). I have attached a patch against Rawhide which does the above split. I set up the dependencies so there should be no loss of functionality for users who install just e2fsprogs or e2fsprogs-devel. What remains is to advertize the split on fedora-devel-list and encourage package maintainers to replace: BuildRequires: e2fsprogs-devel with BuildRequires: lib-devel where appropriate.
