The problem does *NOT* appear with kernel-2.6.31.5-227.fc12.ppc on a
PowerMac8,2 (PPC970FX with altivec) detected as 414 (unknown, Shasta-based) rev
3.0 (pvr 003c 0300).  The clock was rock-steady for a duration of 30 minutes. 
So the problem appears to be specific to the Mac Mini PowerPC.
