I opened another bug because we see the same issue WITHOUT a
sparse backing disk.

We've also got it nailed with an easy reproducer script.

virt-p2v converts physical machines to virtual machines.  Boot with a
live CD or over the network (PXE) and turn machines into Xen guests.
