This looks a lot like a livecd-creator problem / bug.

One suggestion is to make sure /var/tmp and any other directories that
livecd-creator might have are on the local machine (eg. not NFS
mounted etc).

But apart from that I don't know.  You'll have to ask the livecd devs:

virt-top is 'top' for virtual machines.  Tiny program with many
powerful monitoring features, net stats, disk stats, logging, etc.
