Subject: Entering lat & long gives a server error
Message-ID: <1220251571.11095.167.camel@hinge.endoframe.net>
If I try to input anything for the Latitude and Longitude fields of my
account information, I get a "500 Internal error" from the server.
It's possible I'm formatting things incorrectly; as far as this is
concerned, the help really ought to note the correct format. And there
really should be a better error message than a generic server error.

Yeah, this is a bug that we need to hunt down. However, using decimal
notation should work::
10.222
3.123
If that works for you, I'll update the Help.

Hi,
I've also encountered a 500 Internal error. The solution is to use a dot
as the decimal separator for longitude and latitude. If you use anything
else (like a comma), it will fail with this error.
Thanks.

Just as an aside, fp.org can be a bit too short-handed these days.
Does it mean fedorapeople, fedoraproject,or fedorapope :).

Ok we are 2 days into writing up a scope, does anyone have some? Sorry
I am just getting to this email... lots of real-life lag time at the

Ok its very aggressive. I am not sure there is any time in there for
screwups like finding out that the CMS falls over at 400 continuous
users...
For scope, I can see the need for the following:
1) Securable.
2) Easy to create custom CSS
3) Able to create cache/static pages versus using a 'squid' proxy to
do it for you.
4) Able to handle large loads for static pages.
5) Securable.

6) What parts of the site will it cover:
Front page, licenses, etc.
Ok now a question about:
Scope need 2008-09-02 2008-09-09
Vet solutions 2008-09-09 2008-09-17
Publictest instance 2008-09-17 2008-09-23
Install 2008-09-17 2008-09-18
CSS 2008-09-18 2008-09-23
Content load 2008-09-18 2008-09-23
To vet solutions, you really need to do public tests.. should it be:
Initial vetting
publictest instances
install
css
content load
Final vetting

Subject: planet fedora rss template?
Message-ID: <48C01E4A.30500@redhat.com>
Hey,
I have a strange request. I was wondering if I could have a copy of the
planet Fedora RSS template? (in my planet install it is at
/var/planet/template/rss20.xml.tmpl)
I have a planet that I run and the rss feed doesn't display properly in
firefox or thunderbird, but planet Fedora's does so I was thinking of
trying out the Fedora template in my planet install to see if that fixes
the problem.
Thanks so much,
~m

Dear Team,
the direct download link of the Fedora 9 DVD does not download the DVD
image, than anything else. It's about 704 Bytes and not 3.3 GByte big.
Thank you in advance for correcting this!

I see that all but one of the liberation fonts releases has permissions
set so only the owner can read. cchance, was this just an oversight on
your part?
mmcgrath, should we make it so files in /releases/ are always mode 0644
in the future?

webhost, nor can we do anything about this abuse. You will have to
talk to the owner of the webhost for help with this issue.

This URL is merely a redirector to one of our public mirrors which
contains the actual content. Do you know which mirror you are being
directed to when your download fails, or the public IP address you may
be seen as coming from?

This is not my experience. The master mirrors have the full DVD
image. I tried downloading 5 times, each time received a different
mirror, and downloaded many megabytes before I stopped it.
Due to the GeoIP and netblock lookups, it's possible you are being
redirected to the same (broken) mirror each time. Please try:
wget -S 'http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/9/Fedora/i386/iso/Fedora-9-i386-DVD.iso'
and note which mirror you are being redirected to. Try a few times
and see if it's the same mirror each time.
Thanks,
Matt

everywhere you have a shortcut now and NO more DVD ISO IMAGE.

Dear Matt,
finally I've got it. We might locally facing a Firewall issue, all CD
images are downloded without any trouble and the DVD image didn't work.
Now I used a different route (backup) and I got it to work. The DVD
image is now loading.
Thank you very much for your support!

For bonus points, it would be nice to include a link to that page as a
secondary "we love these folks too" message on our primary website's

Should we start a list of not-owned tasks that Websites contributors can
pick up?
Add it to Websites/Tasks? Or a new page ...
Then we can put "Rename all Websites/ project pages to match
Help:Wiki_structure" on it. :)

Easiest reply:
"The Fedora Project does not have anything to do with the
website you are having problems with. You are probably seeing
the Fedora server test page:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Server_Test_Page
Directly contact the owner or the Internet service provider
(ISP) of the server you are having problems with. This can be
done with a Whois lookup:
http://whois.net
Good luck."
I have put a copy of this at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Websites_reply_to_server_test_page
Which can now be found in this (new) category:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Websites_project

Hi Chris,
You can find the files in the git repository here:
http://git.fedoraproject.org/git/?p=fedora-web.git;a=tree;f=fedoraproject.org/mediawiki;hb=HEAD
You're free to reuse, modify, and redistribute the CSS, but you do need
to replace the Fedora logo with a logo of your own. Have fun!

Thanks, Noriko!
For the http:// site, it could be that the httpd doesn't have large file
support, which would prevent it from serving the 4.1 GB file. Are you
saying that it fails over FTP as well? Can anybody in Japan possibly
test this?
Thanks,

Subject: download.fedoraproject.org mirrors problem
Message-ID: <48CB59CD.6050501@gmail.com>
Hello,
During the last week I noticed that when trying to access directly
download.fedoraproject.org I get automatically redirected to ftp.ntua.gr
mirror of fedoraproject, probably accordingly to my ip. The problem is
that this mirror is not updated, for example the repo for fedora 9 with
the new key was only updated yesterday and as you can see here:
http://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/linux/fedora/linux/updates/testing/
there is nothing under testing.
Therefore it would be best to disable this redirecting until the repo is
up to date.
Thank you

That is a test page included with our operating system; we don't
actually control the site in question. For more information, please
refer to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ServerTestPage.
To determine the actual owner, you should do a whois lookup of the
domain.

Subject: maybe urgent: out of date email on keys page for gpg fingerprint?
Message-ID: <985432.55691.qm@web31811.mail.mud.yahoo.com>
Howdy,
On this page:
https://fedoraproject.org/keys
It says to run this command:
gpg --fingerprint fedora at redhat.com
which seems like it might be out of date. Running this on a Fedora 9 system that has received the updated key package will return nothing, as shown below [0]. Unless I have been compromised (which Fedora assures us shouldn't have happened with this), the correct email for the fingerprint is fedora at fedoraproject.org. This is probably important to update because of the focus that should be paid attention to it at the present time. :) The fingerprint matches, so I assume that it is the page that was maybe a little out of date. I was going to just fix it myself, but I don't think there's a way for me to do that on that page (which is understandable). Thanks and ttyl,
mich

Here's a patch that fixes this... I'm often hinky about pushing my
changes up to the site without review.
P.S. I'm unused to this MUA's attachment processing, so I hope I don't
get this wrong...

The domain is NOT ours to sell. The Fedora Project only owns
fedoraproject.org, fedorahosted.org, and fedorapeople.org
It is POINTLESS to email webmaster at fedoraproject.org! Email the
webmaster of THAT DOMAIN, NOT fedoraproject.org!!

We do not own the domain in question; you most likely (and heck, even
did see) a server test page that just so happens to be using Fedora.
See http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Server_Test_Page for more info.

Looks good to me, covers the number one annoyance to me (idiots trying
to ask as to sell domains, possibly a little more emphasis on the
NOTs), just need those translations of course. =-)

Hi
Just a interesting note. The ability to select feeds and remove people
you don't want to hear from is really handy. Could that be done in
Planet Fedora?

Are these actually coming to fedora-websites-list@, or just webmaster@?
I thought the webmaster@ was going to a separate list, in which case I'd
recommend just dropping yourself from that list rather than be annoyed.
However, if it is coming to this list (f-websites-l) and list members
are finding it annoying, perhaps we want to reconsider where webmaster@
directs to ...

webmaster@ arrives here, it's also the reason why one must click "Reply

It is annoying, but I can live with it.

This notice was slightly delayed for a number of reasons, so I
apologize. The return of all our services was more contemporaneous when
I drafted it. I wanted to make sure there was a canonical record that
we are back to all systems go for infrastructure, websites, and so
forth.

Subject: Happy 5th Birthday banner
Message-ID: <1221823438.16213.5.camel@localhost.localdomain>
Dear Fedora Artists,
Would anyone be interested in creating a "Happy 5th Birthday Fedora"
banner for our web front page? The Fedora Project was born -- at least
by domain records -- on September 24, 2003. I thought that celebrating
this would be fun. Here's what I was thinking:
* A graphic for the rotation block at the upper left, so we can get rid
of that homely dude who keeps popping up there.
* A bigger banner for the middle of the page, to run for about two to
four weeks.
* Maybe a set of buttons or banners of appropriate size for our Fedora
friends & family to put on their web sites if desired.
Any takers? I put the request on the DesignQueue:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/DesignService#Request_List

After receiving some positive feed-back on it, I transformed the banner
in a few standard-sized buttons for web pages.
However, I think the design is too simple to also work for the big
banner, so for that one we may try something different (maybe re-using
some parts, like the cake? maybe something completely original?)

Nicu, this is GREAT!
One idea for the big banner would be to bring the cake out of the
banner, in other words let it break the borders. Then you might have
more room to play with? Just an idea.
I think it would also be good in the big banner to thank the community
for the 5 wonderful years. :-) Something like: "Thanks to our
community for 5 wonderful years of Fedora." What do people think?

I was just-a-bit unhappy with the ribbon shape (its upper edge) and made
a *minor* adjustment.

I like this overall, but the text on the banner sounds like we're
closing shop. If we could somehow add "and many more" or something
similar to it, it'd be better in my opinion

Hello!
I found the site in the subject exposing raw e-mail addresses in
plain text files. Because of that spammers can collect people's e-mail
addresses with e-mail address harvesting spiders. I personally found one of my
e-mail addresses at the above site via Google search. Please add e-mail address
obfuscation there so that no raw E-Mail addresses will be shown. Obfuscation
could be achieved, for example, by substituting '@' sign with ' at ' and '.'
with ' dot '.

Dan -
The contents at that site are the raw contents of our CVS version
control system. If you are a Fedora package maintainer, perhaps you
included a non-obfuscated email address in a changelog or something.
You are free to obfuscate mail address in the changelogs of your
packages, although I don't personally, there are many ways my e-mail
could be obtained if someone wanted it :)
Obfuscating anything at the URL in the subject may break things, and
in any event would not be the complete corresponding source to a
binary build, therefore we would be prevented from doing so via the
GPL, I believe.

done in advance of (a) Fedora's birthday on Wednesday, and (b) F10 Beta?

Maybe "Thank you, Fedora Community, for five great years and counting!"
...or "...five great years so far!"
Hmm, that's a lot of text, but hopefully you design types -- with a
better eye than mine -- can figure out a way to make it work properly.

Dear sir/madam,
We are the HanoiLUG, the largest Linux User Group and FOSS community in Vietnam.
Currently, we have got a server contributed by Intel and Internet connection contributed by NetNam for mirroring Linux distibutions as well as FOSS in Vietnam (we call it Virror project).
Honestly, I can not find how to become a Fedora public mirror, even, after read this Wiki article: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/Mirroring
Could you please tell us more about this.
Thanks,
Tuan TRUONG

If no one else does at the meeting start, I'll ghost ride your w`hip.
I might want to discuss site banners and how we can stir up interest in
more ideas, more rotation, etc.
