I'm really looking forward to being involved with Fedora. I've been using Fedora since Fedora 6, and I've been gradually using it more and more, and now I nearly depend on it. At school I do all my programming in Java, so I've become quite proficient at that, however in my free time, I prefer to write in C and play with OpenGL and SDL. As for web development, I am comfortable with HTML/CSS, PHP (and SQL when a database is needed), and basic JavaScript. Python seems to be more important every day, so I've just started with that as well. I've checked out the infrastructure/getting started page (this message is to the infrastructure-list as well as the websites-list), but any more guidance is appreciated. -Cliff From trac at fedorahosted.org Thu Mar 5 17:27:20 2009 From: trac at fedorahosted.org (Fedora Infrastructure) Date: Thu, 05 Mar 2009 17:27:20 -0000 Subject: [Fedora Infrastructure] #1227: Hosting footer Message-ID: <064.61ab88ab218f456167146dcdb72210cd@fedorahosted.org> #1227: Hosting footer -------------------------+-------------------------------------------------- Reporter: mmcgrath | Owner: webmaster Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Fedora 11 Component: Webmaster | Version: Production Severity: Normal | Keywords: -------------------------+-------------------------------------------------- This is something we've talked about many times but it's not quite implemented yet. If you're looking to program in C, Fedora does a lot of work upstream on a lot of programs written in C. Offering to look into bugs and do debugging of issues in C programs in fedora-devel-list is one, Fedora-centric way to get involved there. Working with upstreams directly to code new features that Fedora wants is another way. If you're looking to do more things directly related to Fedora, the web team and infrastructure could both use your talents in web development. Infrastructure concentrates more on programming the web applications that we run (the accounts system, package database, koji build system, bodhi updates, mirrormanager, smolt, and others). These are all written in python using the TurboGears web framework. There's work for people interested in working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Python here. ricky, ianweller, and mizmo can better fill you in on what they could put you to work doing in websites. If you're on IRC we all tend to hang out on irc.freenode.net, #fedora-admin (infrastructure) and #fedora-websites I'm abadger1999 if you have questions about getting started in an initial project. -Toshio -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... It would make the output look like this: http://tmz.fedorapeople.org/tmp/get-fedora-netinst.png It doesn't add much width or height to the Install Media block. I'm not sure about the heading to be used. I went with Minimal boot media as that was close to what the installation guide uses. Better wording is always welcome. (I do have commit access to fedora-web, though I use it sparingly. But if this change is agreeable, I'm happy to push it.) BTW, I noticed that the Jigdo heading doesn't use Markup() while the rest of the page does. Should that be changed for consistency? Or perhaps the other headings with no html in them lose the Markup()? For example, before Fedora 10 came out it would count down to Fedora 10's release. Once it is released it shows "Fedora 10 out now". Will that same image URL be replaced with a countdown for Fedora 11 or will that counter come up with some other URL? I want to put the counter down on my blog an I am trying to figure out if to wait for the countdown to Fedora 11 or if I can link to the Fedora 11 alpha image found on http://start.fedoraproject.org/ and it will be updated when the counters start. Hey, we're glad to hear that you want to add a Fedora counter to your site! To add a counter to your site, add the javascript snippet at http://fedoraproject.org/counter to your HTML. We will be updating this file to show the countdown and the release banner every release. For an example of how this looks, see http://ricky.fedorapeople.org/. The AU host Bigpond no longer has rpms for download at: ga13.files.bigpond.com or ga14.files.bigpond.com This is a nuisance since, whenever I try to update, these sites times out before yum moves on to other repositories. I am not sure how to block yum searching at these urls. I think that the new url for fedora 10 updates at Bigpond is: http://mirror.files.bigpond.com/fedora/linux/updates/10/ . . . . etc. Hope this info is useful. Thanks, Ken.
