From davmarti at redhat.com Fri Mar 10 14:57:47 2017 From: davmarti at redhat.com (David Martin) Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2017 14:57:47 +0000 Subject: [feedhenry-dev] Raincatcher & Sync Horizontal Scaling Sprint Report Message-ID: Hi everyone, Here's an update on changes to the $fh.sync API to support horizontal scaling, and load testing around Sync & Raincatcher. * fh-mbaas-api work for sync horizontal scaling is in progress, but functionally almost there. To see ongoing changes or to get an early try of it, see [0] * we're actively re-running load tests and comparing with the current sync implementation, and plan to have something more formal to shout about soon * Raincatcher load testing is oh so close to kicking off (getting some pre-reqs lined up first). Raincatcher leverages the $fh.sync API heavily, so there's a lot of crossover with the $fh.sync load testing we're doing. For the next sprint the plan is to focus on: * ironing out issues with the new sync changes * adding a $fh.statsd integration to the new sync changes (so you can get insights into sync load via the studio) * re-running more sync load tests to better understand how a developer can make scaling decisions * getting some initial numbers from Raincatcher load testing The sprint report in Jira is available at [1]. If you wish to know more, check out the sprint board [2], or reach out on the mailing lists or IRC. Hi RedHat, We?ve gotten many requests for Edson?s new book and thought this month we would provide easy access to other recent books. I?m pretty sure Edson felt like a rockstar signing his new book at the launch at DevNexus. Here are the free books (make sure you log-in) and the titles do a good job so I will leave it there: *Migrating to Microservice Databases: From Relational Monolith to Distributed Data - Edson?s new book *Microservices for Java Developers: A Hands-On Introduction to Frameworks and Containers *Modern Java EE Design Patterns: Building Scalable Architecture for Sustainable Enterprise Development I can?t pass up sharing some blogs that seem to be getting a lot of interest as well. *Java inside docker: What you must know to not FAIL *OpenShift for Developers: Set Up a Full Cluster in Under 30 Minutes *Memory Error Detection Using GCC As always, enjoy! Hi RedHat, We are having Webinar April and thought you might be interested in one of the following two webinars. Migrating to microservice databases: From relational monolith to distributed data Live on April 4, 2017 (yes, we just scored this date) Code is easy, State is hard. Zero-downtime migrations are paramount to guarantee integrity and consistency. Of all the microservices characteristics, the one that creates the most perplexity is the "one database per microservice." However, very few teams have the privilege of starting something from scratch. In this webinar learn how these techniques (and others) relate to each other in many integration and evolution strategies for relational databases: *Strong and eventual consistency *Create, read, update, and delete (CRUD) *Command and query responsibility segregation (CQRS) *Event sourcing Register now. Advanced microservices with .NET and Linux Live on April 25, 2017 We?ll have a demonstration of the circuit breaker design pattern and how you can use it immediately, regardless of your development model. In this fast-paced session, you will see: *.NET code (C# and F#) be turned into microservices, running on Red Hat?s Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Red Hat? OpenShift. *How Linux, .NET, Docker, Kubernetes and MSA will all be tied together in this peek into the future. *2 deployment methods?blue/green and canary?and show how uninterrupted deployments are possible. Register now. We look forward to seeing you on one of the webinars. Thanks.
