I have not tested with solaris 10, but I can confirm that it works
with openindiana (former opensolaris) using the instructions in
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/17/html/FreeIPA_Guide/Configuring_an_IPA_Client_on_Solaris.html

I posted a while ago a problem with this when using dhcp (see
archives: https://www.redhat.com/archives/freeipa-users/2012-September/thread.html#00001,
look for 'openindiana' and you will find the whole thread). As
Sigbjorn Lie pointed, you can use a DUAprofile which *just works*.
