Garret: Try this:
* Pop in the CD
* If it doesn't automount, type:   mount /mnt/cdrom
* Refer to the contents of the CD via /mnt/cdrom
e.g.  cd /mnt/cdrom
* To unmount the CD:   umount /mnt/cdrom 

You may also want to take a cursory look into the /mnt folder to see
what entries are available.  

And that totally exhausts my knowledge of Linux and Cds.

Probably just haven't been paying attention. Could anybody tell me

I must do to mount local cdroms? Would that be part of enabling local
apps?
