Xvesa is part of the XFree (under the MIT/X11 license, of course). It is not
built by default, since under normal conditions it has to be installed as
suid and as such is a huge security hole. No one in their right mind installs
Xvesa on a normal server/desktop, that's why you've never seen it before.

On the terminals, everything runs as root.  No worries about someone getting
root on a box designed to run everything as root ;-)
