Here's a quick-and-dirty test:

Would one of you seeing the fonts problems try downloading and installing
this test rpm and let me know if it fixes the problem? Be sure to set
USE_XFS = N first, of course ;-)

If it doesn't work, remove this test package (rpm -e ltsp_x_fonts) and
install ltsp_x_fonts & ltsp_x_fonts_abiword from your CDs (or download them
from ftp://k12linux.mesd.k12.or.us/pub/devel/3.0/RPMS)

These fonts work for me, but then so did the original ones...
