[K12OSN] Server suggestions

Todd,

A good place to start is with the online source: pcprogress.

They are located in a suburb of Chicago and have very competitive prices for
computer hardware. I bought a new server for our lab and it runs great.

Specific hardware items for server:

Case:	Antec Server Tower model 1060 - lots of fans and good cooling	$ 125
MB: Tyan Tiger S2466-4M - Dual Athlon cpu board $ 231
cpus:	Two Athlon 1800 MP w/ fans and warranty $ 286
Mem:	At least 1 gig ECC registered DDR memory	(2 x 512 mb) $ 375
note: the Tyan board supports four DDR SDRAM chips
and additional 2-512 mb SDRAMs would be very useful
hd ctrlr:	Adaptec SCSI 29160 - 160 mb/s with 68 pin connnector $ 180
hdiiscs:	At least one SCSI 36 gb drive $ 181
video:	Servers do not need fancy video: use ati Mach 64 8 mb cards	$ 26
NICs:	Two 100tx network cards:	Intel Pro 100s or 3Com $ 64
Case Fans: Add intake case fan $ 15
Shipping:	Add $60-70 depending on how shipped $ 70
Add keyboard and mouse if needed $ 40
	Total Cost $1,593

If you don't wish to assemble it yourself, PCPROGRESS will do so for a nominal
fee. Check them out. http://www.pcprogress.com

Blessings.
