[K12OSN] TFT Refresh Rates



Larry,
The "optimum" refresh rate for "most" TFT displays is 60Hz. While they
will work above and below this frequency, you start to lose contrast and
viewing angle. TFT displays will run at 60 Hz without much interference
from surrounding 60 Hz sources because a. they don't rely on phosphors
to retain the image, and b. The backlighting inverter typically runs at
50-100 KHz. Most Linux installs have LCD setup in either "generic" or
"vesa" section of the display selection menus, where the default
frequency is 60Hz. I've put TFT displays in steel mills with electric
arc furnaces with virtually no degradation from surrounding magnetic
fields.
