Re: [K12OSN] Re: Macs and LTSP

Hi: i use the 5260 with a small os 7.6.1 partition..i use the mklinux
bootloader. i use pdisk to create a swap partition on he hadrd drive. For 0s 9
you would probably have to use the bootloader from ydl. i have a Mach Kernel
that is gzipped whixh i drop on stuffit over the network an place in
extentions.. set boot device to be /dev/ram...When the dpuble boot secreen
comes up i select linux. the kernel loads and the initrd is placed in memory..
the initrd initializes the ethernet card and obtains an address via dhcp....the
nfs mount is mounted ..then pivot root ... the linux.rc takes over and starts x
then a kdm login screen appears..Now everything works pretty much as in rdhat 9.
With netboot the kernel cownloads from the server via tftp then everything
works as it does with a nubus mac...
a 5260 with a dayna card and 32 meg memory gives acceeptable
performance. Chuck
