Check /tmp first, naturally:

	du -shc /tmp

To check all of the directories in the root partition, skipping /home and /boot,
sorted by # of megs:

du -shcmx /* | sort -nr | less

If you find that /var is the culprit, for example, run the same command there...

du -shcmx /var/* | sort -nr | less

Rinse, lather, repeat.
