The problem is that you copied over a i686-specific C library. This is why
your PII's (686) work, but your PI's (586) don't. You will probably get a
better response on how to fix this, but I'm in a hurry to get out the door...

1) grab the glibc-2.3.2-???.i386.rpm off your cd (or download it). Make sure
   it is the "i386" one, not   the "i686" ;-)

2) run:   rpm2cpio glibc-2.3.2*rpm | cpio -id
   this will extract the contents of the rpm, you probably want to do this
   in an empty subdirectory

3) copy over the extracted libc-2.3.2.so and ld-2.3.2.so
