Re: [K12OSN] Dying mice and enthusiasm

FWIW, I noticed that when I went from a k12ltsp 2.1.2 server to a 3.1.1 server (that is, I built a new server) that some two-button Microsoft PS/2 mice used with some workstations stopped working, as in the mouse wouldn't work at all when the client booted up but X would start and I would get the graphical login. I attribute the change to XFree86 4.x used in the new version, whereas in 2.1.2 I was primarily using XFree86 3.3. I got around it easily enough by just using, say, a wheel mouse, but it was annoying at the time. I haven't had time to test various configs on different workstations to more precisely figure out what the problem was, but when I do I'll post a follow-up.

Hi gang

In one of the schools where we are running K12LTSP 3.1.2 (1.1 with updated rpms) for 30 diskless workstations, the mice keep dying on us, generally while running Open Office. The remedy - restart the computer - is more than mildly annoying. Has anybody else experience this? How was it solved?

Are they USB mice? I've seen some motherboards that have buggy PS2
emulation that does weird things to mice. The fix in that case was
to enable native USB by uncommenting (or adding) the following line
in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf

RCFILE_02 = usb

Thanks for any help/support you are able to provide - This request is made two days after the Associate Superintendent for Technology in our district put out a memo stopping ALL further deployment of ANY Linux OR Open Source solutions... I am waking around in a daze... is Microsoft making some new offers that our taxpayers should know about, or is it perhaps a Texas political agenda item?

May God have mercy on us!
