[K12OSN] How to restart gdm without rebooting?

Not sure if this is a correct answer or not, but you can log into the
server as root and do init 3 and wait for the prompt to return and then
type init 5 and wait again. You may have to press ENTER a time or two to
get the prompt back but that will restart X. Works for me, anyway. . .
