I supply my own server, and the next best thing I have is a p2400 with 128 megs of ram--not a good alternate server. I am in a novell envirnment, and while I can use the novell directories as home folders for my students it is a pain if my ltsp server dies. It also doesn't help convince the nay-sayers Gatesians and Novellites. I would much rather see my whole district drop novell, use samba and openldap and phpgroupware and dansguardian and classroom/lab/library ltsp servers and save a fortune. I have a couple of people carefully trying ltsp boxen in a library and a classroom. If it works reliably and easily we make progress. If obscure widget @ obscure address has suddenly killed their display managers and I have to leave my class to fix it the whole cause of introducing cheap efficient effective educat!
ional computing takes a possible mortal blow. In that situation, I can't really afford to be a tester. If linux takes off..and our sysadmins lear to trouble shoot it (some are good alrealdy) then maybe I can try the latest and greatest and take a risk or 2 in my class.
