All users are typically granted UID's above 500 so that is why if you
are migrating users also to new machine (so that they can access home
also) it is worthwhile to copy the three files mentioned and after
install (do not add any users at install) just drop these files into
/etc directory. However if you have added some additional services then
you will have to "append" these files to original after deleting all
UID's and GID's  lower than 500.
