Read the howto.  it may be geared towards KDM, but the concepts are the
same.  You just need to look at gdm.conf, and see which scripts are run,
and add the same code to update the utmp file.  The only thing that
changes is which file you need to edit.  Follow gdm.conf, and see what
it is doing.
