Being a command-line sorta guy, here's how I do it...

1) insert the USB flash drive
2) tail /var/log/messages, see what the device name is, usually /dev/sda
3) mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/

I've seen a hardware-browsing tool used to show what the device name is,
but it takes me longer to look for that than to just tail the log ;-)
