Usual qualifying statements:  YMMV, FWIW, etc...

You might try the command (fdisk MBR) (remove parenthesis, retain
capitals).  I think that's the syntax of it - from memory.  If you have
a bootloader problem you have to re-write the boot sector of the the
disk to get it to play nice.  Had to use that myself to wipe LILO and
replace it properly with GRUB, you may find that to work in your case 
too though somewhat different?????
