If you mounted that partition with knoppix, then they are all 'unknown',
because those users don't exist in the /etc/passwd file on the knoppix
cd.  They still have unique user ids.

If you copy those files to another system  (AND preserve ownership and
permissions), and the new system has the users in the /etc/passwd file,
you should be fine.
