What sort of IDE drives are those on the third server? Interesting
comparison!
Two WD400BB IDE Drives on a relatively new SOYO mobo (cheap development
server) 1.7ghz celeron chip
Raid-0 through linux i.e. not hardware
/dev/md0:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.85 seconds =150.59 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.47 seconds = 43.54 MB/sec
/dev/md1:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.84 seconds =152.38 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.15 seconds = 55.65 MB/sec
/dev/md2:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.84 seconds =152.38 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.08 seconds = 59.26 MB/sec
/dev/hda1:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 0.78 seconds =164.10 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 1.47 seconds = 43.54 MB/sec
Just some comparison for the group from me. A big hello to the buffered
reads on SATA!
