And then you lose the advantages of package management.

And anyway, netatalk is in FC1:

fedora/linux/core/1/i386/os/Fedora/RPMS/netatalk-1.5.5-9.i386.rpm

If you setup your yum correctly, you just need to install it:

yum install netatalk
