We use Winbind combined with pam_mkhomedir to authenticate users against our
windows domain and create the users local home directory. You can find
information on winbind on the samba.org site and information on pam_mkhomedir
here:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/libs/pam/Linux-PAM-html/pam-6.html#ss6.15

If you through in pam_mount (http://www.flyn.org/projects/pam_mount/) you can
actually mount the users windows home drives as a subfolder of there linux
home drive.

If you decide to give it a whirl and get stuck feel free to drop me a line
with your questions.
