I do it....first why keep the 2003 server?  You can serve roaming profiles
from the Samba server just as easily...if not more so.  I have a
Samba/LDAP server which houses all my users and their home directories and
profiles....this same server is the PDC as well.  I've been doing roaming
profiles for several years...we use Win XP Pro exclusively (except for the
Linux terminals) and roamong profiles.  Works seamless....users would have
no idea it was a Linux server if I hadn't told them.  A how-to is here....

One addition to that how-to....I think I forgot to include the need to
change the /etc/ldap.conf file..... (anytime around step 4)  simply change
the search base to your own     dc=sample,dc=org

Also another note.....I have lately been simply skipping the first part of
my how-to and not running apt or CPAN....if you install "everything" in
FC2 you'll get all you need....especially Net::LDAP.  Hope this helps!
