If the home machine had a fixed ip address that would work
but most home connections change frequently. You can
try an nslookup on the IP number to see if it resolves
quickly or not, or for a little more information (if
anything is working) use 'dig' with the in-addr.arpa
form of the number (1.2.3.4 becomes 4.3.2.1.in-addr.arpa).
