I do it....first why keep the 2003 server? You can serve roaming
profiles from the Samba server just as easily...if not more so. I have
a Samba/LDAP server which houses all my users and their home directories
and profiles....this same server is the PDC as well. I've been doing
roaming profiles for several years...we use Win XP Pro exclusively
(except for the Linux terminals) and roamong profiles. Works
seamless....users would have no idea it was a Linux server if I hadn't
told them. A how-to is here....
http://web.vcs.u52.k12.me.us/linux/Samba-LDAP.html

One addition to that how-to....I think I forgot to include the need to
change the /etc/ldap.conf file..... (anytime around step 4) simply
change
the search base to your own dc=sample,dc=org

Also another note.....I have lately been simply skipping the first part
of my how-to and not running apt or CPAN....if you install "everything"
in FC2 you'll get all you need....especially Net::LDAP. Hope this
helps!
