[K12OSN] What am I missing

Need lots more info....first...server sound card is a non-issue. 
Second...are you trying to run in Gnome, KDE, or IceWM?  Have you enabled
sound in the lts.conf?  Have you uncommented the line for Sound Blaster
cards in the same place?
