shawn-capture the network traffic and see what it shows at login....and 
check your id maps lines in smb.conf..if all else fails maybe youvan john 
terpstras attention on #SAMBA FREEBODE.NET
jht is his byword..
to be truthful this beats hell out of me..but ethereal output mght 
help..chuck
ncsd running on your server???
