This is almost certainly a fontserver problem.  
1) If the server previously worked, have him check his
lts.conf file for the font server, and if it's set to
yes, then restart XFS, or, if it's not set, make sure
the fonts were uninstalled on an update.
2) If the server is new, check the TCP block on the
XFS service on the server, the service itself as
running, and the lts.conf file for possible problems
in IP.
