[K12OSN] SME server project status?

It looks like the free branch of the SME server project at
www.contribs.org is in a shambles.  After a hardware failure and
replacment the maintainers seem to be saying they can't afford to do it
any more. 

In some ways it has a real synergy with k12ltsp but in others the 'Linux
for people who don't like Linux' design is as much a problem as the
outdated RH 7.3 base distribution.  Is anyone looking for a project to
help?
