[K12OSN] digicam import application? (gtkam doesn't detect Nikon Coolpix 4300)

Okay,
I tried to install gphoto2, but it asked for ligphoto 2.1.2.
I dled and installed libgphoto 2.1.4, first. If I try to install 2.1.2,
won't it tell me that I have a more update version and refuse to act?

I tried digikam, but it asked for libexif. When I tried to install
libexif with yum, told me that libexif was already install, and the
latest version.

Digikam gives these instructions, which I failed to follow at first
(just tried configure, make, make install, but didn't get past configure):
In the source directory do :

1) export WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5=1
2) export KDEDIR=KDE_installation_dir_on_your_system
3) make -f Makefile.cvs
4) ./configure
5) make
6) su
7) make install

Perhaps if I could do this, it would find libexif, as necessary.
But, what is "KDE_installation_dir_on_your_system"?
