David...

Have you looked at moodle? www.moodle.org

I was on a committee that used moodle to manage threads, post minutes, track
feedback. It worked really well.

I use it with my classes, but don't take advantage of the collaboration as
much there.

A link to a working moodle site I am using with a PreCalc class is

I see in the sig that you folks are from Mt. Desert Island. I lived in NE
Harbor as a kid and went to the Elementary school there. Small world, etc.

Regards... Tom

Subject: [K12OSN] Collaborative tools?

This is from a colleague of mine....any suggestions?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I am hosting an interesting “town meeting” here at MDIHS next month. The
island group MDI tomorrow has asked me to set up a wireless collaborative
network that will make it possible for 250 people to work on agenda items
in small groups and share their results as a whole. This is the model
that is used for the “National Town Meetings”.

This first attempt will involve setting up 25 tables in the gym to provide
room for 250 attendees. Each table of 10 participants will have a
wireless laptop where that table’s “moderator/recorder” will record the
important points of the discussion and “send” that information to a Group
leader who will collect and distill the input from all 25 tables and then
send those results to a computer that will project the running results on
two large screens via LCD projector for the entire group of 250 to see.

I am working out the details and am asking for ideas from all the creative
people I know.

Do you have any suggestions about open source software that could be used
to manage this kind of data exchange?

Thanks for your thoughts.
