[K12OSN] G3's up and running!

Eric,
Rpm -q esound returned okay on the server.

Part of the problem with the client was /bin/esd didn't seem to be
there. I changed the inittab to /usr/bin/esd and it said successfully
on boot that it was listening on port 16001. The ps auxw | grep esd on
the client after the Ctrl-Alt-F1 did return a similar line as what you
indicated, weird thing is that the first three times I issue the command
I get two lines after that only one. The extra line lists "grep esd" in
place of "/usr/bin/esd -nobeeps -tcp -port 16001". I however am still
short on sound when fully booted. But a good sign is that when I
Ctrl-Alt-F1 to the command line I receive error beeps on the client if I
punch something it wrong. This is progress, I never heard these beeps
before.

I am now going to try the :once: option instead of :respawn:. Maybe
that will fix something. I am also assuming there is no reason to order
in the inittab file and am just throwing the two new commands at the end
of the file, first esd, then x.

My sound on the Term150's just goes to a steady high pitch beeping, but
I have no problem with that at this point. I would be very happy with a
dedicated Mac lab.

On a side note, Shawn, the Ctrl-Alt-F1 appears to let you out of the X
query and issue a reboot command without crashing the local YDL.

You should not need to install esd on the server. You can verify that
you have it installed with:

	rpm -q esound

It is a good habit to put it in quotes, but not strictly needed for a
single parameter. (something like VARIABLE = "param1 param2" must be
quoted)

With K12LTSP 3.1.2, the SOUND_DAEMON variable must be global. Your x86
clients should work again if you reboot them.

K12LTSP 4.0 added support for having SOUND_DAEMON on a per-client basis.

I believe you can still hit "Ctrl-Alt-F1" to get to a command line login
prompt. If you can, login and run:

	ps auxw | grep esd

you should see somthing like: (made up, it won't look exactly the same)

	root 883 0.0 0.0 4796 516 pts/4 R 09:27 0:00
/bin/esd -nobeeps -tcp -port 16001

Worse case, set SOUND_DAEMON back to nasd and reboot the Term150's....
