Yes, if you are running 'thin' terminals instead of local apps, the
programs always run on the server and can display on any kind
of device running X.  However many programs won't be improved
by compiling for 64bit mode.  The big advantage is that the
kernel can use a more efficient mode to access more than
4 gigs of RAM.  In most cases you won't want a single application
using that much.
