Here is the entry in the K12LTSP wiki:

Sound on thin clients is at a relatively early stage of development. Sound
support is turned on by default, but that does not mean it "just works" by
default.

There are currently two different sound sub-systems: esd and nasd. You
can switch between the two to see which best supports your applications
by editing the "SOUND_DAEMON" line in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf

If you select "esd", there you can turn on additional "features" by
adding:

 	REMOTE_SOUND_HACKS=YES

to /etc/sysconfig/k12ltsp
