None of the pre-fruity macs will boot installer cds (ok, there are some 
exceptions, but for the most part it's a rule) -- you have to install a 
mac partition first.  It's possible ubuntu was not designed to work that 
way, and might be a challenge to install.

I know yellowdog 3 has intructions on their manual about how to install 
it on older machines...  That's what I did.
