Yes, I'm not complaining about the current setup or even suggesting
that the canned ISOs for the most popular distribution should be
discontinued.  I just think it might be much less work in the long
run to tweak the packaging so the same thing works across all the
redhat-style distros.  I can't think of any differences among them
that would prevent a single package from working on all (although
a lot of little gotcha's wouldn't surprise me).   Aside from being
able to use it on hardware that doesn't like the current favorite
distro, there would then only be one set of packages to maintain
in the update repository.  Most of you probably haven't maintained
a Linux server the 'hard' way and may not realize the enormous value
that that the automatic update repository provides or how much extra
work it is to deal with packages that don't match a repository.
