[K12OSN] Local Devices Clarification

Looking at the thread about USB scanners...

Is this a method to get things like palms to sync too? If so, I assume
the program (jpilot?) would have to run as a local app, no? (Otherwise,
how on earth would it see the device...)

Would the same method work for floppies and USB keys, if we had nautilus
(or emelfm, or some small file manager) run as a local app, and had all
the thin clients mount /home too?

I guess I'm just looking for whether or not my understanding of the
process is correct...

Thanks,
-Shawn
