FWIW David I ran into the same thing two weeks ago on a Dell "server". 
It worked for a year and a half with FC2 but Could not load FC4, could 
not load CentOS. Ubuntu loaded just fine. It is a LAMP box and file 
server for Follette card catalog so I really had no compelling reason to 
go with a K12.
