The ACPI=OFF command helps on my Toshiba laptop, too. Without it, the OS 
installs successfully, but no network is available. The adapter is 
identified, but the network doesn't work. This was solved during the 
Fedora Core 3 process, I believe, but I keep the ACPI=OFF, largely for 
historical (irrelevant) reasons.
