I've got it set for ESD, and I actually have gotten sound mostly
working. It seems there was some setting I changed in my test user
account that was breaking stuff as a freshly created user gets working
sound. I suspect it might have been having the "Start sound server"
option in the gnome sound settings enabled. I didn't think to track
down exactly what the problem was before destroying and re-creating
that account. This is great progress. However, this has exposed a new
problem.
If user A boots up a workstation and logs in and uses the multimedia
systems selector to generate a test tone, he gets a sound. If he logs
out and user B sits down and logs in, he does not. Instead, user B gets
the error "Failed to contruct test pipeline for 'ESD - Enlightenment
Sound Daemon'". User A can come back and log in again and have sound. I
searched through the list postings for this stuff and have seen what
seems to be a couple of other people run into this problem, but there
was not a solution found. It also seemed that they did not make the
connection that the first user to login at the workstation gets sound
but nobody else does. I am guessing this is some sort of permission
problem, but I am not sure. I am going to dig into it some more this
afternoon and if I find a solution I'll post it here and on the wiki.
