Additionally, there are some known installation problems with certain
SATA controllers and FC4 (on which K12LTSP 4.4.1 is based), so knowning
which controller he has would be useful. Look through the bugs at the
link below and see if any applies to your hardware:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=MODIFIED&bug_status=NEEDINFO&bug_status=REOPENED&field0-0-0=product&type0-0-0=substring&value0-0-0=sata&field0-0-1=component&type0-0-1=substring&value0-0-1=sata&field0-0-2=short_desc&type0-0-2=substring&value0-0-2=sata&field0-0-3=status_whiteboard&type0-0-3=substring&value0-0-3=sata&field1-0-0=product&type1-0-0=substring&value1-0-0=install&field1-0-1=component&type1-0-1=substring&value1-0-1=install&field1-0-2=short_desc&type1-0-2=substring&value1-0-2=install&field1-0-3=status_whiteboard&type1-0-3=substring&value1-0-3=install

As a side note, I have an SATA harddrive at home that wasn't found by
the default installer but after working some magic (which, sadly, I no
longer remember) I got things installed and running. I should note that
the installer doesn't have all of the drivers that the final install
does, so difficulty during install doesn't necessarily mean the drive(s)
won't work once installed.
