Ha! I figured it out. I hadn't specified the host.

Did you create the database first using mysqladministrator? If so, did
you set the root password for that database? Are you sure you're
entering in the proper information?

I'm installing Moodle on my FC4 server and get errors while trying to
create the tables.
I've created the mysql database but get error 1044 Access denied. I'm
not sure why...any thoughts?
