But is there an entry for the user there or not?  Because as your 
nsswitch.conf entry below indicates - /etc/passwd is being checked 
before ldap. So an entry in /etc/passwd for the user specifying the old 
shell would supercede the ldap entry when posix user authentication 
occurs (such as ssh and console login).
