Thanks Les,  I was wondering about that too.  My home box- identical to 
school except for ram, has certainly had a ton of cups updates...

I've booked off the labs this afternoon to just do a re-install of the ltsp 
system.  I've pooched the dependencies for apt, and firefox won't print.

It'll now just be way faster for me to just slam the CDs through the box 
again and pop the configs back now, than chase all of these troubles...  
Assuming another unexpected gremlin doesn't lift its head!

I wonder if doing an update would work?

Are you current with updates?  I think I've seen a couple go past
for cups, but I don't know what they fixed.
