LTSP scales to 30 thin-clients per 4G ram and a dual Cpu box..with that
in mind.

My idea for a design would to create LTSP Nodes ie (Ltsp-mosix + 2 cpu
(64 bit) +4G ram + switch (32 x (10/100) + 1x 1000) Mbps ports
These server would located in the wiring closest with rack mounted 2U
servers with a 32 10/100/1000 switch for 32 clients.

the server would connect back via gigabit to a centrally sited say
(e-smith-mosix) server with large SCSI raid fast single cpu 4G ram
and tape backup or dual layer DVD rewriter ..this would do your domain
/homes /ldap-/samba and mail, squidguard etc...
because the Nodes are identical and modular management and replacement
in the event of failure would be straightforward.

ideally your clients would all be the same... say 17"LCD with built in
Amd Geodes with 64M Ram nice and tidy.

I your main office you would have another e-smith server identical the
the school ones (for simplicity)
you would setup management (e-smith server-manger etc ) rsync critical
stuff... sit back and admire your empire...

now all you need is to fill in the blanks
Eric is trialling 64 bit ltsp..... throw in mosix?? excellent..
throw in working LDAP authentication
e-smith has excelent design and is rock solid
..
cheers
